BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — The Baton Rouge Fire Department is investigating after two people were injured following a house fire on South Sunset Hill Avenue on Friday, November 1st.
Crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 5700 block of South Sunset Hill Avenue around 2:54 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, BRFD found fire blowing from a window of the home, according to officials.
Firefighters entered and helped an elderly woman out of the home. They were able to quickly extinguish a heavy fire found in the bedroom. BRFD stated, “The elderly woman told firefighters her grandson was still inside the home.”
He was not found inside, but was later found in the parking lot of a Baton Rouge grocery store.

He was transported to a local hospital with lacerations from jumping out the bedroom window, BRFD said. The elderly woman was treated for potential smoke inhalation and released from ED.
The Baton Rouge Police Department initially responded to reports of a shooting at Shoppers Value Foods in the 5900 block of Airline Highway, but it was later discovered that the male victim had been mistaken for a shooting victim.
“During this scene, two calls of shots fired were made in the area,” BRFD said. Fire officials confirmed there was no shooting.
