SAN ANTONIO, Texas (November 1, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University’s final regular season road trip concludes this week with two games in the Lone Star Conference. The Lady Chaparrals visit San Antonio on Friday to take on the St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena, followed by the regular season finale Saturday in Austin against St. Edward’s at 1:00 pm in the Recreation & Convocation Center.

WATCHING STMU
– St. Mary’s holds a 16-12 edge in the all-time series dating back to 1980. LCU has won 10 of the last 16 meetings in the series, but the Rattlers have won three of the previous four meetings. The two teams met in San Antonio last season, with LCU picking up a 3-1 victory on Oct. 7. The Lady Chaps are 5-3 all-time in San Antonio.
– StMU closed out the 2023 season with a 2-6 record in its last eight games to finish 12-15 overall and 7-9 in LSC play (11th in the rankings). The finish saw them pre-season seeded ninth in the LSC heading into this season.
– Heading into Friday’s matchup with Lubbock Christian, St. Mary’s holds a 13-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play, placing them in the middle of the conference standings. The Rattlers have been excellent at home with an 8-4 record and are 2-4 on the road while remaining undefeated (3-0) at neutral sites. St. Mary’s hit a midseason streak with a six-game winning streak that included dominating sweeps over Oklahoma Christian, Cameron and Texas A&M-Kingsville, though recent results have been more mixed, with three losses in their last five games, including a recent loss 3-0 by conference leader West Texas A&M.
– St. Mary’s ranked 25th nationally and 3rd in the Lone Star Conference with 12.78 per set. Additionally, they rank 40th nationally in shots per set (third in the conference), displaying a balanced defense that supports their offense.
– Important to the success of St. Mary’s is setter Kali Nims, who ranks 24th nationally and third in the Lone Star Conference with an impressive 10.62 assists per set, highlighting her essential role in coordinating plays and creating scoring opportunities. She is also second in the conference and 27th nationally in total assists with 828.
LADY’S NOTES CHAP
– Lubbock Christian enters Friday’s game with an 11-9 overall record and a 7-3 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranked sixth among LSC teams. LCU has faced challenges on the road, but winning three of their last five road games makes them 3-6 in road games. They played their first 14 games of the season away from home (includes seven neutral site games…4-3), but took advantage of the limited play at home by posting a 4-0 record on their home floor. Their four home games are the fewest among any LSC program, with several programs playing 11 games at home this season (StMU will host LCU on Friday for their 12th home game this season).
– LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Friday with an average of 37.5 attacks (per set), which ranks seventh in the Lone Star Conference and 53rd nationally. Kiana Falaha and Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Falaha ranks second in the conference with 11.0 attacks per set (23rd nationally) and had 581 total tackles (19th in the conference) despite missing six games. Overall, LCU’s total offense totaled 2,850, which was seventh in the conference.
– This season marks LCU’s fourth season under a coach Keith Gibbons. The seventh Lady Chaps head coach in program history is entering his 20th year coaching in the NCAA. Gibboni, who has four NCAA tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching wins in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching record of 443-213. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th-most active head coach in hitting percentage (.679) and the 27th-most active head coach in wins (432). He has the third-most total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.
– Setter Caiton Genenbacher is currently seventh all-time in the LCU career record books for assists with 2,910 (25th active among the NCAA Division II auxiliary leaders). On Sept. 27 in Denton, Texas, she became the ninth member of the Lady Chaps in program history to reach 2,500 assists. Genenbacher took 15th placeth nationally in assists per set with an 11.0 average, which ranks her second in the Lone Star Conference. -The Lady Chaps showed potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and nationally. Notably, the team’s scoring average of 15.8 ranks eighth in the conference, highlighting a solid defensive effort led by Lady Rae Gwynn (12th in LSC with 3.7 digs per set). Offensively, the team’s kills per set average of 13.8 is third in the conference, with Lily Bickley (seventh in LSCin points per set, 3.79) and Kiana Falaha (eighth in points per set, 3.78) leading in scoring (points). Peyton Murray also posted double-digit kills in nine of the previous 11 matches and averaged 3.53 kills per set over the 11-match span.
– LCU has made remarkable strides in conference play. Caiton Genenbacher averaged 12.0 assists per set (leads LSC), contributing 433 total assists in 10 games. Peyton Murray supports offense with 129 kills (sixth in LSC), p Lily Bickley (118, 13th in LSC) and Briley Schweer (112, 11th in the LSC) providing a balancing attack (14.6 kills per set for LCU to rank fourth in the LSC and fourth in hitting at .249).
