Birmingham City manager Chris Davies believes Blues new boy Ayumu Yokoyama showed his high-level technique and one-on-one ability against Fulham Under-21s.

The Blues signed Yokoyama from Japan’s Sagan Tosu in the summer and he has played ten times in all competitions for the club so far.

The 21-year-old winger scored twice in Birmingham’s 7-1 win over Fulham Under-21s on Tuesday.

Davies revealed that Yokoyama faced a language barrier when he joined in the summer and added that the Japanese is working hard to learn the English language and the English style of football.

The Birmingham boss believes Yokoyama demonstrated his high-level technique and one-on-one ability with his performance against Fulham.

“He is young, he comes from Japan; it is not easy; he barely knew a word of English when he came so he’s working on learning it, learn how we play, learn how we play in England because it’s different here.” Davis said Blues TV.

“He’s so physical and competitive, but he showed what skills he has. He has high level technique, very very fast, excellent in 1v1.

“He works hard for the team and his two goals were a joy.

“I had a great angle for both of them, brilliant goals and they will earn him the world’s confidence.”

Yokoyama is yet to start a league game for Birmingham and all eyes will be on Davies to see if he can give the Japanese side a start in League One soon.
