BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Families celebrated Halloween at Birmingham City Hall by enjoying Harvest Fest, a safe alternative to trick or treating.
The event featured everything from a petting zoo to face painting, horseback riding, good food, music from the movie Inside Out and more.
Tracy Bennett, deputy director of youth services, and Alicia Lumpkin, director of process improvement, shared that Harvest Fest is an event the city has hosted for years, although there has been some hiatus.
This year Mayor Woodfin decided to bring it back and they say it’s bigger and better than ever.
“This year’s theme is a popular movie theme and we’re excited to be here and get all the people of Birmingham to come out and enjoy Halloween with us,” says Lumpkin.
The Boutwell parking lot was open all night for free parking and there were over a dozen food trucks lined up along Park Place.
Players from the UAB football team were also there, along with a special performance.
“Carnival games, tricks, lots of inflatable slides. We’re looking forward to having a really fun time tonight,” Barnett said ahead of Thursday’s festivities.
This is not the only event the city hosts; every police station and public libraries also host bag or treat events.
