LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Vice President and Democratic nominee for the highest office in the United States, Kamala Harris, made a stop in the Las Vegas Valley on Thursday, continuing a series of busy days for the candidate leading up to Election Day.
Harris took the stage shortly after 9pm at the Craig Ranch Amphitheater in North Las Vegas. She was preceded by the band Maná and pop artist Jennifer Lopez. The vice president took one last step to win votes from those last tie votes before Election Day on Tuesday.
“It’s time for a new generation of leadership in America, and I’m ready to offer that as the next president of the United States,” Harris said. “Nevada, you know me, I’m not afraid of tough fights.
During the rally, Harris addressed several topics, including affordable housing, rental issues and eliminating tip taxes. She also addressed concerns about home care for the elderly.
“I took care of my mom when she was sick, if you take care of an elderly parent, it’s personal for me,” she told the crowd of supporters. “My plan will cover the cost of home care for your elderly parent under Medicare so you don’t have to spend your savings to qualify for Medicaid. So older people can get the help and care they need to stay in their homes, and it’s just a matter of dignity.”
In Clark County, many people have already voted, with about 300,000 ballots processed as of Wednesday. A total of 307,000 voters participated in early voting for the election.
The stop in North Las Vegas is just the latest for the vice president in a busy few days. Earlier Thursday, she was joined by Mexican group Los Tigres Del Norte before heading to southern Nevada. She is set to face Republican candidate Donald Trump in Wisconsin on Friday. Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Waltz will visit Las Vegas on Friday.
