BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Department was busy Friday morning with multiple fires, some of which happened at the same time.
The four fires were on Eastview Boulevard, Camelia Lane, Sunrise Lane and an apartment complex on Gadsden Highway.
BFRS officials said when they arrived on scene on Eastview Blvd., a car and the front of a house were on fire.
The fire chief isn’t sure if the fire started in the house’s car.
As of 4:10 a.m., the car was still burning due to gas in the car, but authorities said everything was under control.
Two people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to get out safely.
Less than a mile away on Camelia Lane, firefighters were battling another house fire with a burning vehicle.
Authorities say about 75 percent of the house has fire damage, mostly in the garage and front of the house. After arriving, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly.
The resident had already evacuated the house before firefighters arrived and was across the street with neighbors.
By the time WBRC photographers arrived at the scene of the fire on Sunrise Lane, firefighters on the scene had already extinguished the blaze.
No further information is available on this at this time.
Finally, fire crews responded to a call at the Ascott Apartments on Gadsden Highway, where they found a large fire in the dumpster.
Two engines were left to fight the fire.
At the scene of the Camelia Lane fire, officials said multiple fires at once were taxing on the system, but the way they were set up to be able to pull people from other areas, they were able to handle it fairly easily.
