LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – An increase in pursuits involving human smuggling cases has been reported in Laredo.
The president of the National Border Patrol Council, Hector Garza, attributed the increase in pursuits to some of the camera towers not working along the US-Mexico border.
Earlier this month, an internal memo from US Customs and Border Protection revealed that nearly a third of surveillance cameras along the border were not working.
Garza mentioned, “There were a lot of problems. Congress and CBP are currently searching for the actual contractor responsible for repairing the cameras. For now, these challenges still exist.”
Garza adds that technology is an essential tool agents use to help secure the border.
