Lubbock ISD is removing four schools from the list of those considered for consolidation or closure – KCBD

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – In response to concerns from parents and educators, Lubbock ISD has now named four schools that will not be considered for consolidation or closure.

As we reported earlier this month, Lubbock ISD is considering its future while juggling declining enrollment, aging facilities and a tight budget.

A district spokesperson confirmed to KCBD that the Lubbock ISD administration has removed these schools from the list of schools currently being considered for consolidation or closure:

  • Copper Elementary
  • Ramirez Elementary School
  • Wheelock Elementary
  • Wolffarth Elementary

The Future Focus Committee, made up of more than 100 members, including parents, students, community members, staff and district leaders, is currently reviewing campus needs across the district. No decisions have yet been made by this committee and it has not yet submitted recommendations to the school board.

Another update from our earlier report: the committee will not present its recommendations to the board at a Nov. 7 workshop. This workshop is now scheduled for November 21st. Additionally, all board action has been postponed until December.
