Doniel Perez Pacheco, a Cuban resident of Hialeah, Miami-Dade, was arrested this week and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly punched and attacked his ex-girlfriend with a knife.

Perez, 30, was arrested by police last Tuesday and appeared in court the day before, facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three additional charges: burglary by force, damage to property and trespassing, according to court records .

The Cuban man and the victim had been in a relationship for three months, during which there were incidents of physical violence related to money.

Mike Vega, a spokesman for the Miami police, told AmericaTeVé that the first altercation between the two occurred last August, when the accused began threatening his girlfriend.

“At that point he grabs the phone because she was recording it, throws it and breaks it; he then grabs a knife, walks towards her, she tries to defend herself and he cuts her finger,” Vega said. .

According to the police report, several days later, the victim asked Perez to return the house keys and take her belongings, prompting them to meet again at the residence. A new fight broke out there, during which – as the woman reported – he hit her on the head and then left.

Miami police detained the Cuban for questioning this Tuesday, but he refused to make a statement.

The police spokesman stressed that “this is another case of domestic violence where we tell victims that if they have a problem at home they should call the police immediately…there is help available for victims”.

Miami-Dade Criminal Court Judge Mindy Glazer set bail at $9,000 for Perez and ordered him to stay away from the victim, identified during the hearing as Amanda Kobas.

The accused’s lawyer told the court that his client works with his brother in swimming pool repairs and has no criminal record, although he has been arrested before.

Court documents show Perez has previous arrests by El Doral, Miami-Dade and Miami city police for driving under the influence of alcohol, drug possession and possession of a firearm, Vega said.
