Get used to it: Bucky Irving was held out of practice today

October 31, 2024

A precaution against unpleasant toe injuries.

Energizing rookie Bucky Irving did not practice today. He’s probably a game-time decision, Bucs coach Todd Bowles told the local pen-and-mic club today.

And expect that to be the case all season long.

Irving has a problem with his toes. The Bucs have not provided details. Bowles said Irving has had the same problem since his days at Oregon. And Bowles added that the injury isn’t going away. At least not this season.

“Bucky [Irving] it’s going to be the same as last week,” Bowles said of Irving’s injury status. “He’ll probably train towards the end of the week, but he’ll probably have this problem all year.”

Bowles doesn’t like to talk about injuries. He rarely offers more than a word or two. So for him to go deep with an injury, it pretty much means that every week could be a game day coin toss as to whether or not Irving makes it.

Many Bucs fans wondered why Irving didn’t get more touches on Sunday. Bowles said Irving is not up to par.

“We’re limiting him during the week so he can be in the games,” Bowles said. “During the game he is fine.”

So no, Irving’s bad toe injury didn’t stop him from making more runs.
