Birmingham police are encouraging parents to bring their children for treats while supplies last.

In addition, BPD also warns of safety tips for hobbyists as they embark on their candy-seeking trips

Here are some safety tips while you’re out and about:

  1. Never enter the home or car for a treat.
  2. Restrain pets so they don’t jump on or bite the trick or treat.
  3. Go to homes with only the porch light on and ideally a well-lit path.
  4. Join kids 12 and under for trick or treating. If children are old enough to be outside unsupervised, tell them to stick to well-lit, familiar areas and play in groups.
  5. Have children carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
  6. Discuss with the children how to call 9-1-1 (or their local emergency number) if they ever have an emergency or become lost or tend to wander. See Help prevent your child from going missing for tips.
  7. Cross the street at corners using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
  8. Driver! Reduce speed and watch out for pedestrians.

It’s time to show off your Halloween costumes!
