Ajax Fire has published a number of safety tips for those working with fireworks:

- Fireworks should not be discharged in windy weather.
- Read package instructions carefully before discarding.
- Plan your firing order before you start
- Use a good baking base, such as a bucket, box or wheelbarrow filled with sand.
- If the fireworks do not have a standing base, bury them halfway in the sand unless the label says otherwise.
- Place the fireworks at a 10-degree angle, pointing away from spectators.
- Never light a firework in your hand or hold a lighted firework.
- Light fireworks carefully and always light the wick at the top.
- Water and portable fire extinguishers should be kept nearby for emergencies.
- Dispose of used fireworks, including debris, in a bucket of water.
