Chaps defeated Midwestern State 2-0 at Wichita Falls – LCU Athletics

WICHITA FALLS, TX (October 30, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University struggled to find an offensive rhythm against Midwest’s relentless offense, falling 2-0 to the Mustangs on Wednesday night at Stang Park. MSU’s Mere Escobar led the charge, scoring both goals to end LCU’s three-game losing streak.

The loss dropped Lubbock Christian to 5-6-5 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play. Midwestern State improved to 10-2-3 on the season and 5-2-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

How it happened

Midwest State controlled possession and applied constant pressure, outscoring LCU 23-4. Despite the offensive onslaught, LCU’s defense worked to keep the Mustangs at bay, with the goalie Connor Pettigrew logging three saves to prevent further damage. Escobar opened the scoring in the 28th minute, assisted by Johan Juarez, and later doubled MSU’s lead in the 76th minute to seal the result.

LCU’s limited offensive chances were well protected by MSU’s back line, with the Chaps managing just two shots on goal from Yannis Sapim and Francisco Horta. Both attempts were saved by MSU goalie Daniel Robles, keeping LCU off the board.

Lubbock Christian will return home for its final regular season game, hosting Eastern New Mexico at the LCU Soccer and Track Complex on Nov. 6. In addition, the Chaparrals will host Matador Night, celebrating their relationship with the Lubbock Matadors. The Greyhounds enter the game with a 4-4-6 overall record and 2-2-3 in Lone Star Conference action. In its last game, Eastern New Mexico lost 4-2 to West Texas A&M in Canyon on Wednesday. Lubbock Christian and Eastern New Mexico will look to pick up a key conference win and make a push into the Lone Star Conference Tournament when they have first contact at 7:00 pm from the LCU Soccer and Track Complex.
