A Halloween horror film made in County Durham has given its director his best film debut
The legend of Sayre Hicks was created entirely on mobile in the County Durham area and has been viewed nearly 40,000 times in just three weeks.
The short film features American actor Roger L. Jackson, who is the voice of Ghostface in the Scream franchise. He provides the atmospheric voice-over at the beginning of the film.
Wayne Thompson returns as Sayre Hicks alongside Eleanor Carter and Julie Meighan.
Writer-director Dean Midas, from Willington, said: “This is my 10th short film in five years, usually the views start to drop but with every new film we release we break records.
“A huge thank you to the cast, crew and all the venues around the North East who continue to support us.”

The Legend of Sayer Hicks is the second edition based on The Devil’s Stone, a central feature of the landscaped area outside the council offices in Crook town centre.
It is believed to be more than 10,000 years old and is called the Devil’s Stone because it is said that if you run seven times around it, the devil himself will appear.
The local legend is the central premise of the franchise.
