Ipswich conditioner Gary Gilbert hopes Capalaba’s return for Sunday’s Futurity final will also lead to a return to the top of the podium for his speedster It Wasn’t Me.
The filly Fernando Bale and She Plays last raced on the straight six starts ago when they were unplaced in the Capalaba Cup.
In her five starts over 520m at Albion Park and Ipswich, her best finishes were second and third.
However, Gilbert believes It Wasn’t Me is better than that.
“She’s actually going as good as ever right now, but she’s just been unlucky on the circuit lately,” Gilbert said.
“She was checked from her last races there. Her scores recently aren’t a fair indication of how she’s doing. But I have no doubt that will change when she returns to the circuit after Kapalaba on Sunday.
“It runs in a straight line from the boxes and so the circle is better placed if it is outside. For now, we’re going back to Kapalaba and I’m sure she’ll do well.”
There will also be two derby series on Sunday.
