Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is discussing selling a minority stake in the team, according to a new report.
Jillian Tan and Randall Williams by Bloomberg report that Lurie is “negotiating the sale of a minority stake in Eagles to the family of tech titan Susan Y. Kim.”
Kim is the executive vice president of Amkor, which provides the following bio about her:
“Kim was elected to Amkor’s board of directors in February 2015. Ms. Kim is a former board member of EB Games Corp. She is an active philanthropist who currently serves on the board of directors of the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia. , she has served on numerous boards, including The National Constitution Center, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Franklin Institute, The GESU School, and The Shipley School. Ms. Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hamilton College, the daughter of Amkor’s executive chairman, James J. Kim.”
Taking minority ownership could be part of estate planning, and in that case, there is no indication that selling a small part of the Eagles would have any effect on how the team would be acquired.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the sale is this Bloomberg notes that the sale values the Eagles franchise at $8 billion. The last sale of an NFL team came when Josh Harris’ group purchased the Washington Commanders in July 2023 for a record $6.05 million.
