#3 Wake Forest will close out the regular season against NC State – Wake Forest Athletics

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Coming off one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, the No. 3 ranked Wake Forest women’s soccer team is ready to welcome Big Four foe NC State to Spry Stadium this Thursday, October 31st.

    • She has eight goals, seven assists and 23 total points, including a goal in four of the last five games.
    • Kaia Hanks ranks seventh in ACC in total points (23) and eighth in goals (8) and assists (7).

      • Additionally, her 18 points in a conference game ranks second in the ACC, and her seven goals are tied for first.

    • She is now five points shy of the top 10 in program history for a single season.

  • Emily Colton has recorded at least one goal in eight of his last 11 appearances for the Demon Deacons and is second on the team with 16 total points.

    • Additionally, her four assists rank third on the team.
    • Colton was recently ranked the No. 2 player in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.

  • Emily Murphy has also been incredible over her last five games, scoring three times, recording three assists and being involved in numerous other scoring opportunities for the Demon Deacons.

    • She also has 19 goals and 18 assists for her college career, which puts her at 56 total points.

  • Before Sunday’s loss to Duke, the Demon Deacons had tied the record for the longest home unbeaten streak in program history at 15 games.

    • During the 15 game streak, eight resulted in a clean sheet for the Deacs as they outscored their opponents 35-8.
    • It marked the second-longest active home unbeaten streak in the ACC, behind only Florida State’s 25.

  • A record 3,761 fans packed Spry Stadium Sunday night to witness the top two teams in the country battle as No. 2-ranked Wake Forest women’s soccer team fell to No. 1 Duke in the finals, 2-0.
  • The 3,761 fans were the most for a home game in program history, breaking the previous record of 3,000 set on October 27, 2000. Additionally, 1,095 Wake Forest students were in attendance to support the women’s soccer program.
  • In the early stages of the contest, both teams showcased their talented squads as the score remained 0-0 at the half-time break. However, Duke scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-0 victory.
  • Wake Forest’s offense created chances in the second half, including a strike in the 54th minute Emily Colton which hit the crossbar before To Emily Murphy the second chance went to the right of the frame.
  • in goal Valentina Amaral recorded two saves as a back line as a senior Laurel Ansbrough, Zara Chavoshi, Christine Johnson and a redshirt freshman Sierra Site all passed the full 90.

    • It marked the fourth straight game that these four have gone the full 90 together and the sixth time this season.

Wolfpack Intelligence

  • NC State enters the final regular season game of the year at 4-9-4 and 1-5-3 in ACC play.
  • The Pack are currently on a three game unbeaten streak with ties against Syracuse and Virginia Tech and a 1-0 win over Clemson.

    • This marks their longest unbeaten run of the season.

  • On the road, NC State is 1-4-2 with their only win away from home coming in a 5-0 win over VCU in August.
  • The Wolfpack are led by sophomore forward Jade Bordeleau and senior midfielder Annika Wohner, who are tied for the team lead with 10 points with four goals and two assists apiece.
  • In goal, junior goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas is tied for third in the ACC with 71 saves this season. She also posted the fifth-most clean sheets in the conference with five.

History of streaks against NC State

  • Wake Forest holds a 19-8-3 all-time record against the Wolfpack dating back to 1994.
  • In Winston-Salem, the Deacs are 9-2-2 against NC State and haven’t lost at home to the Pack since 1996.
  • Last season the two teams finished in a 1-1 draw at the Spry Stadium as Kaia Hanks scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute to salvage a point.
  • Wake Forest’s last win over NC State came in 2021 with the current ProDeac Giovanna DeMarco scoring the only goal.
