LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) — After a warm afternoon in the mid-80s Wednesday with cool conditions, a huge change is coming to our region.
Our Pacific cold front officially passed through the area at 6:00 PM and has now given way to an even colder air mass to move in overnight.
The air mass behind the front will be one of the coolest this season, the combination of clear skies, low dew points and light winds will allow morning lows to drop into the 30s and 40s. These temperatures will spread over the region Wednesday night and areas in the extreme northwest of our watch area may freeze.
A freeze warning is in effect from 1 a.m. until 10 a.m. Thursday for Parmer, Castro, Bailey and Lamb counties. Protect sensitive outdoor plants and crops and bring pets indoors if you can.
High pressure will move behind the front, allowing winds to drop to 5 mph or less overnight. The surface height will rise to the east of the region tomorrow, allowing winds to remain light as it moves to a more easterly direction. That will also keep highs around the season tomorrow, in the low 70s and slightly upper 60s.
Pending your Thursday night trick-or-treat prediction, things remain pleasant for outdoor festivities. Temperatures will be around 60 degrees with a light southeast wind around 5-10 mph.
An upper-level disturbance brings rain chances Friday through Monday. The chance for showers and thunderstorms looks very likely at this stage. Temperatures will remain cool with highs in the 70s due to rain and cloud cover.
