Raising Cane’s vs. University of Nevada, Reno shows school spirit — for UNLV – Reno Gazette Journal

Raising Cane’s had a new special at its 2175 N. Virginia St. location. — UNLV mugs!

The restaurant, just a few blocks from the University of Nevada, Reno, received the wrong order of cups and other supplies, manager James Aviles told the RGJ.

The shipment was supposed to include red cups with a generic football design. Instead, the Reno location received a shipment destined for Southern Nevada Raising Cane’s with University of Nevada, Las Vegas commemorative mugs.

Aviles said it’s not uncommon for university mug deliveries to get mixed up — but they usually get mugs from Fresno State. Some UNR students weren’t so thrilled about the mistake.

“Boo,” said Cole Wible, a UNR student having lunch with a friend between classes. “I think it’s fake. It’s half a mile from a school and they root for our rivals.”

UNR student Logan Hirsig described it as “crazy.”

“I’m sure they have UNR stuff everywhere,” he said. “Why do they have UNLV mugs?”

Archie’s Giant Hamburgers & Breakfast is next door to the national chicken finger joint. It has been serving hungry UNR students across from campus on North Virginia Street for three decades.

“I definitely wouldn’t give out UNLV mugs,” said Todd Pickett, owner of Archie’s. “We prefer to support the university and the wolf pack.”

Raising Cane’s corporate office did not respond to RGJ’s request for comment.
