And after the “best ever” exhibition saw over 1,000 people flock to Lowestoft last year to see more than 200 exhibitors, the talents of local crafters and clubs will be back in good form this weekend.
.
The ninth Lowestoft Model Engineering and Model Making Exhibition will be held at the Energy Skills Center and Sixth Form College at East Coast College in Lowestoft on the weekend of 2/3 NovemberAs the event once again showcases modeling clubs and societies across a range of disciplines, this year’s beneficiary is ‘brave little warrior’ Tommy Gilbert.
With the exhibition organized by the Halesworth and District Model Engineering Society, Kevin Rackham, chairman of the exhibition committee, said: “The exhibition is now probably the largest of its type in East Anglia.”
As well as showcasing traditional model engineering in all its guises, boats, aeroplanes, model railways, fun fairs, radio controlled trucks, Star Wars and Daleks will be on display inside, with live steam engines and trucks as well as radio controlled cars and trucks outside, weather permitting.
With trade stalls and refreshments, cash only entry is £7.50 for adults, children 12 to 18 are £2.50 with a companion under 12 free.
Mr Rackham said: “The beneficiary this year will be little Tommy Gilbert.”
When Tommy was 18 months old, he was diagnosed with a very rare form of epilepsy – making him only the “30th person in the world” to be diagnosed with the condition.
The struggling four-year-old from Lowestoft has suffered hundreds of seizures and has already undergone more hospital appointments, scans, tests and treatments than most people would ever have in a lifetime.
Mr Rackham added: “Tommy can’t walk, talk or do any of the normal activities normally associated with a four-year-old.
“The money raised from the exhibition will go towards a special car seat for disabled people to protect him and maintain his posture.”
