Construction begins on new River Food Pantry facility in Madison – WMTV

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The River Food Pantry is making a new start as construction has begun on a new facility.

After raising more than $11 million, organizers say the new building will be more than 32,000 square feet, three times the size of the current warehouse.

“The River has needed more space since I joined the organization more than a decade ago,” said Rhonda Adams, executive director of The River. “With demand at an all-time high in 2024, this expansion cannot come soon enough. Thank you to all of our supporters for helping us make our dream home a reality.”

The new space will also include an all-electric commercial kitchen, storage areas and a walk-through.

Organizers further explained that the building will be constructed with clean energy equipment and practices such as a solar panel array and rain garden.

The new location will be directly across the street on vacant land off Packers Avenue.

It is expected to open in late 2025.
