BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — The Louisiana Youth Sports Network is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It’s also getting ready for homecoming weekend in Baton Rouge.
The non-profit organization, founded in 2005, aims to teach football to children. He also strives to mentor athletes and improve their lives.
“I wanted to be the best father in the world. I had a son who played football. I wanted a program that was quality and that cared about the kids. Not just from a sports perspective,” said Leroy Hollins II, founder of LYSN.
He said about 200 volunteers support the organization, impacting approximately 3,000 children in Louisiana. The soccer group operates in many areas of the state, including the metropolitan area and New Orleans.
“It’s an opportunity for everyone to come together and forget what’s going on around us and just have fun,” said Corey Polk, media coordinator for LYSN.
The organization is also looking for partners willing to reach a large market by donating money to cover costs such as equipment, insurance, officials, background checks and other certifications.
Homecoming is set for Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at Memorial Stadium. There will be a tailgate along with games. There will be a church service on Sunday. To close the weekend there will be a fireworks show that evening.
