SAN ANTONIO – An update to a story we brought you a few weeks ago about Erika Torres, the Laredo mother who police say was shot by her ex-husband in June and is now recovering in San Antonio.
Billy Delgado is charged with aggravated domestic violence for shooting his ex-wife Erica Torres. He was able to post bail and is now out of jail awaiting the start of his trial.

We first told you that Erica had a relationship with Delgado that turned violent. She shared with her mother that his drinking worsened and became more violent over the course of their marriage. On the first of June this year, Erica, who was separated from Billy at the time, agreed to take their daughter from his home.
The confrontation turned violent as Billy waited for Erica and shot her 14 times. Five of those bullets hit her in the stomach. Although Delgado was charged with aggravated assault, her mother, Edith Terrazas, said they were only informed minutes before his release.
The district attorney’s office says no bail terms have been agreed upon at this time for Delgado. Terrazas says this makes Erica fear for her life.
She was really scared for herself and her daughters. Of course her daughters are here and she had to be sedated because of her anxiety and she was so scared because all this time we were telling her that everything was fine, that he wasn’t released, that we would be warned and about unfortunately that didn’t happen.
Erika is currently in hospital recovering from serious injuries while her daughter is staying with a family member. They have taken some security measures to make sure Erica and her daughter are safe, including notifying the hospital and her daughter’s school of his release.
However, Terrazas says it’s frustrating because they feel their safety has not been taken into account.
The fact that there is, there’s no communication and we’re not notified of what’s going on is really disturbing, you know? why Why is that, you know, right? You know, when they say they’re here to protect us and they’re here to serve, I don’t see that.
Based on the Webb County website, there is a final preliminary hearing today for Billy Delgado. Jury selection begins Dec. 2, where Erica’s family says she plans to attend.
