The Cleveland Cavaliers faced the Los Angeles Lakers in a significant interconference matchup on Wednesday night. The game marked LeBron James’ first return to Rocket Mortage FieldHouse with his son Brony, who played on the same team as him. However, Jarrett Allen and the Cavs spoiled James’ comeback.
Allen had 18 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in the first half. Ironically, he became the first Cavalier with those numbers in a half since LeBron James and 2017, according to StatMuse.
Jarrett Allen finished the game with 20 points and 17 rebounds in 31 minutes. He had strong support from his teammates. Another member of the front line, Evan Mobley, totaled 25 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes. Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell finished the game with 24 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
On the other hand, LeBron James did everything he could to help the Lakers in their homecoming. He finished with 26 points, six rebounds and three assists. Bronie James entered the game for five minutes and scored two points along with two assists.
A total team effort by the Cavs led to a 134-110 victory. Still, the team has areas it can improve on. One player Cleveland has seen growth from is Darius Garland, who finished with 10 points and 12 assists on Wednesday night. Donovan Mitchell sent a stern message to Garland’s naysayers.

“I just want everyone who’s been on this side to stay on this side when it comes to him. I don’t want there to be a change. I know who a lot of you are,” Mitchell said of the continued criticism Garland has received over the past year. “There are times in your career when you have years like that. Obviously, he was experiencing things personally. You have to grow up. You have to understand it. A lot of people said it can’t.
Garland and the rest of the Cavs’ promising team continue to figure things out as they look for a deeper career in 2024-25.
