Lakemill Lodge in Reno was closed Wednesday due to biohazardous waste and evidence of controlled substances found during an investigation into code complaints and other issues.
The 123-room Reno Motel on Mill Street, described by police as a haven for drugs and crime in the past, was closed after evidence of human waste was found in stairwells and common areas of the property, along with positive tests for fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin on syringes, the city of Reno and Northern Nevada Public Health said in a joint release.
NNPH closed the stairwells and common areas until the problems could be fixed: “As the stairwells provide the primary exit points from the facility, residents of Lakemill Lodge were evacuated and the building was closed until restoration can take place and officials determine that the building can be reopen,” the message said.
Reno’s Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development and other community agencies and organizations work with residents to secure temporary housing.
