A sheriff’s deputy inadvertently used a stun gun on a student while working a detail for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and has been placed on administrative leave, according to a school system spokesman.
Nicholas Davis was working as a security guard for the school system Tuesday when he tried to de-escalate a potential altercation between students at a bus transfer point. When Davis tried to activate the stun gun’s warning noise, the prongs made unwanted contact with a student, district spokesman Perry Robinson said.
Davis, who works in booking processing at the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail, will be placed on administrative leave from school system duties pending an investigation.
He will also be suspended from any detail until he is recertified and trained to wear a Taser again, a spokesman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office said.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Robinson said in a statement.
