Las Vegas (KSNV) — A prominent North Las Vegas park is celebrating the completion of its renovation efforts.
Officials with the city of North Las Vegas hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the orchard at historic Kiel Ranch Park Wednesday morning, showing off the park’s expansion.
The renovation added 1.6 acres of open space and improved accessibility, sustainability and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
“This new phase at Kiel Ranch reflects our vision for the future: Creating spaces where families can gather, enjoy the outdoors and make memories,” said Mayor Pamela Goins-Brown.
“We are committed to improving the quality of life by preserving the history of North Las Vegas while focusing on community growth and engagement.”
Originally part of a 240-acre homestead established by Conrad Keel in the late 1800s, the land was previously used by Mormon missionaries and Native Americans, with evidence of a local Paiute presence before the settlers, officials say.
The park also includes one of Nevada’s oldest adobe structures, the Dollhouse and an active artesian pond, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Other improvements added include:
- New entrance from Commerce Street with additional parking
- Walking paths connecting to Phase 1 of the park
- Covered picnic shed and pergola with comfortable seating
- Interpretive signs that educate visitors about the history and environment of the Kiel Ranch
- Native and desert-adapted plants for eco-friendly, water-efficient landscaping
