From CBS 42 reports
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Two burned bodies were found in Birmingham Tuesday morning, CBS 42’s Austin Franklin and Scott Minshall report.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, the victims were found in the 1600 block of North 90th Street. Police have not identified the victims, but the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is performing autopsies on the bodies.
“In the meantime, we’re keeping our ears open for any missing persons and we have two victims in this case,” said Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel were dispatched shortly after 8am to reports of a fire. Two bodies were found in a burning car at the scene.
“Our officers have since notified our homicide unit,” Fitzgerald said. “We are currently classifying this as two unclassified death investigations.”
Clarence Fuller lives on the street where the car was found. He said he heard two loud explosions Monday night.
“I thought the transformer blew,” Fuller said. “Then I think it was an electric shock or something.”
Fuller was walking around his neighborhood Tuesday morning and discovered the deadly scene.
“I see the car sitting in the middle of the road,” Fuller said. “I called the fire department, came back downstairs and said there was a car in the middle of the road.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting BPD with the investigation. Birmingham Police urge anyone with missing family members or loved ones to call them at (205) 254-1764.
