Fernando Alonso to arrive in Brazil late after treatment for infection – Irvine Times

Alonso’s Aston Martin team revealed the 43-year-old had been suffering from the condition before the previous round in Mexico.

The Spaniard headed to Europe to see a specialist after the race in Mexico City and will be absent from Thursday’s media activities to preview Sunday’s Interlagos Grand Prix.

He is expected to be in his cabin for practice on Friday.

A statement from the British team read: “Aston Martin confirms that Fernando Alonso will miss his media activities in Brazil.

“Fernando was suffering from an intestinal infection on the eve of the Mexico City Grand Prix. He returned to Europe to receive further treatment from a specialist.

“The extra day of treatment has delayed his plans to travel to Brazil but ensures he will be ready to race this weekend.”

Alonso became the first driver to reach the 400 Grand Prix last Sunday, but after qualifying 13th, the two-time world champion was forced to retire after just 15 laps with brake failure.
