Darrell Vannoy to return as warden of Louisiana State Penitentiary, DOC says – AOL

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — Darrell Vanoy will serve as warden of the Louisiana State Penitentiary after current warden Tim Hooper announced his retirement, the Louisiana Department of Corrections announced Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Vannoy returns to the Louisiana State Penitentiary after retiring from prison in September 2021 due to a bout with COVID-19. He has since served as warden of the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility in Woodville, Mississippi, according to a news release.

He has spent most of his 49-year career in prison in Louisiana. Vannoy started in March 1975 as a corrections cadet, according to a news release.

He will take up the new role on November 25.

Hooper is set to become warden of the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center on Dec. 1. According to a news release, he is expected to retire on Sept. 30, 2025. He previously served as Hunt’s overseer for five years, before that he was in Angola for three and a half years and has been a district overseer since 2017.

Elayn Hunt Correctional Center Interim Warden Dusty Bickham will lead the Dixon Correctional Institute starting Dec. 1.
