BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — Eight Louisiana law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2023 will be honored by the Louisiana Law Enforcement Commission at a special Medal of Honor ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
“The Louisiana Law Enforcement Medal of Honor was established in 1997 to recognize the service and ultimate sacrifice made by law enforcement officers for the protection and safety of the citizens of Louisiana,” the Law Enforcement Commission said in a news release of Louisiana.
According to a news release, the following officers to be honored during the ceremony include the following.

Senior Constable Trevor Aaron Abney, New Orleans Police Department.

Corporal Scotty W. Cannazzaro, Baton Rouge Police Department.

Deputy Sheriff Barry Paul Giglio, Ville Platte City Marshal’s Office.

Corporal Sean Kevin Kelly, Denham Springs Police Department.

Officer Carl Douglas Kimball, St. Francisville Police Department.

Deputy Marilyn Anjanette Mayo, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Detective Sgt. Nicholas Pepper, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant David J. Poirier, Baton Rouge Police Department.

In addition to honoring officers, Shreveport Police Department K-9 “Harrie” will also be honored during the ceremony, according to a news release.
The ceremony will take place at 2 pm on Wednesday at the Old Louisiana State Capitol, 100 North Blvd. in Baton Rouge.
