The world must be getting much worse!
Activists are protesting everywhere.
Listening to them, I would have thought that hatred, homophobia, racism and threats to the environment were at an all-time high.
But it’s not true.
Despite our ugly electoral politics, for most people life is better than ever.
Our air and water are cleaner. People are living longer and healthier lives. There is less racism and homophobia.
But if they admit it, the activists will be out of a job.
In my new video, John Tierney, a journalist who has covered protests for years, says, “For activists, success is a threat. It will put you out of business.”
I push back. “They are not a business. They don’t make money doing this.
“Yes, they are!” says Tierney.
He is right. Environmental groups probably stand to gain the most. The head of the World Wildlife Fund pays himself $1.2 million a year.
Will it somehow reduce climate change?
“Climate change is the perfect crisis,” says Tierney, “You can attribute anything to it, and it’s always in the future.”
The fund says climate change has increased the number of “major hurricanes”.
“There is no long-term increase in the intensity or number of hurricanes,” Tierney points out, “but every time one comes along, it’s a great snapshot for the crisis industry to use to say, ‘This is climate change!'”
As for fraudulent self-dealing, Tierney says, “The best example is the Southern Poverty Law Center.”
When the SPLC opened, it promised legal aid to victims of racism. After his lawsuits bankrupted Ku Klux Klan chapters, the SPLC changed its “Klanwatch” to “Hatewatch,” Tierney points out, “making up the idea that there’s a rising tide of hate in this country. … It scares people and they get paid.”
“They think they’re making the world a better place,” I guess.
“But they aren’t!” he says. “They fiercely attack and grease.”
Slander groups like Mothers for Freedom and Mothers for America.
“Fearmongering and giving people the idea that there’s all this hate and racism,” Tierney continues, “when all the evidence points to the exact opposite.”
The SPLC founder said he would stop fundraising after they raised $55 million. Now they have $600 million and are asking people for more money.
Another branch of the crisis industry, The Human Rights Campaign, claims that gay Americans are under attack. They issued a “national emergency” for LGBTQ+ people.
But “Last year, public support for gay rights reached an all-time high,” says Tierney. “Gays can get married in any state. There is no stigma against homosexuality. Gay characters were taboo on television; are now practically mandatory. Anti-gay slur is career suicide. But these activists should declare some kind of emergency.
Racial justice activists argue that America is still a racist country.
“How did this fundamentally racist country elect Barack Obama and re-elect him?” asks Tierney. “There is even a decline in the search for racist jokes on the Internet. People are more committed than ever to treating everyone equally.”
I am referring to the killing of George Floyd.
“But it was a very rare event,” says Tierney. “Studies show no racial bias in police shootings. Taking one death and turning it into a ‘national reading of race’ has been incredibly lucrative for activists.”
They raised more than $10 billion after the killing of George Floyd. BLM leaders have spent $12 million of that on luxury properties.
And their protests against the police must have killed people. Violent crime skyrocketed.
Activists’ self-promotion often kills.
“One of the great public health advances (of) this century is vaping,” Tierney points out. “After vaping devices were introduced, smoking rates fell to historic lows.”
Many lives have been saved because of the cigarette a lot safer than smoking.
“But it was a huge threat to anti-smoking activists,” says Tierney. “If people leave on their own, what will happen to us? So they started scaring people about cigarettes.”
“They’ve managed to convince most people that vaping is just as dangerous as smoking,” he adds. “It’s a terrible thing for society. But it was very good for the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids. It’s great for their careers. It’s terrible for public health.”
