FORT MADISON (WGEM) – Fort Madison has a new police chief.
Cody Potthast was sworn in on Friday.
Chief Potthast was appointed as a captain in the Fort Madison Police Department in 2022 after a long career in law enforcement in Nebraska.
There are currently 19 officers at FMPD, and Potthast said he hopes to add more.
“Everything from the street departments to the fire department to the police department to our city manager and our mayor, I feel blessed to have the opportunity to work with these people as we continue to try to grow this city and make it safer and more a good living environment for the community,” Potast said.
Potthast replaces former Police Chief Mark Roloff, who retired after 45 years in law enforcement.
