BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) – The Central Police Department is asking parents to talk to their driving-age children about the game of drifting after a two-vehicle crash on Monday, Oct. 28.
Central police said the crash happened “on the freeway near Frenchtown” and witnesses told police what led up to it.
They said “that the northbound vehicle swerved back and forth repeatedly as far as O’Neill Lane before entering” Central.
According to Central PD, other vehicles were being checked for a break-in from the northbound vehicle, which was driven by a juvenile driver.
The northbound vehicle eventually exited the center highway through the median and struck a southbound vehicle. It caught fire after stopping “on the westbound side of the carriageway,” Central Police said.

The police reported that there were no serious injuries in connection with this accident.
The drivers involved along with the witnesses gave statements that led Central Police to conclude that the northbound driver lost control of their vehicle while playing a “drift” game or challenge, police said.
The game is on social media.
According to Central PD, “Drifting is loosely defined as an intentional oversteer causing a loss of traction.”
They are asking parents to learn about Drifting and Double Drifting and to tell their driving age children not to do it.
“One young driver discovered tonight that these challenges have real consequences,” Central PD said.
