LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD)—We’re staying out of record high temperatures Tuesday night, but keeping strong winds. Winds remain near advisory levels this afternoon with a mostly southerly flow.
Winds and showers at night
Bands of low-level stratus clouds are expected to develop over Caprock and Rolling Plains overnight. This will play a role in keeping cold temperatures back above average overnight. Expect highs in the 50s and 60s, with cool southerly winds continuing.
There is a small chance of showers and storms in the forecast for areas outside of Caprock specifically and areas in the north east of our watch area. This precipitation will be due to the advection of warm air over the area.
Large hail along with damaging wind gusts may be possible in some of these storms. Maximum hail sizes near a quarter and maximum winds near 60 mph are expected if the storms become strong. Storm movement will be rapid and all of these storms should be out of the watch area just after sunrise.
The Pacific Front
The expected cooling on Thursday will be due to a secondary front that will pass after tomorrow’s frontal passage.
The Pacific front should be in our area by mid-morning Wednesday. Cool conditions are expected ahead and behind, giving us another day of patchy dust blowing across the area, but especially in the eastern part of our viewing area.
