Amazon to close Lemmon Valley hub in August 2025, affecting 500 jobs – KRNV

Amazon announced that its fulfillment and distribution center in Lemmon Valley will close in August 2025 due to the expiration of its lease. The company has decided not to renew the lease, according to an Amazon spokesperson.

Over the next 10 months, Amazon plans to work with the nearly 500 permanent employees at the Reno facility to transfer them to another local facility or relocate them if they wish to remain with the company.

“We weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to open new facilities, improve existing facilities and close others — including business needs, as well as how we can best improve the experience for employees, customers and partners,” Amazon said in a statement. “As our lease at our Reno facility expires, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations out of that site next year.”

The company added that it will provide assistance to employees who wish to relocate to another city and remain with Amazon. For those who choose not to relocate, Amazon will offer a competitive severance package, including severance, transitional health benefits and job search support.

Amazon has assured that there will be no impact on customers in the Reno area. A new facility currently under construction in south Reno is expected to support same-day delivery to customers in the region. Employees from the Lemmon Valley center will be eligible for positions at the new facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2025, although opening dates may vary due to factors such as weather and supply chain delays.
