A US Navy member from Baton Rouge receives a Service Appreciation Award at the Italian Hospital – AOL

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — A member of the United States Navy from Baton Rouge has been recognized for his work in Italy.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Brett Burns was assigned to the U.S. Navy’s Medical Readiness and Training Command in Sigonella, Italy. She received the Naval Sergeant’s Appreciation Award for her service at Sigonella Naval Hospital.

The award is given for professional achievements in the excellent performance of official duties, according to a release.

“This award was given by the Italian Kiwanis Club for superior performance and dedication in the care of women and children,” Burns said. “It means a lot to me to represent my hospital and country in my host nation, not only as a surgeon, but by volunteering extra hours in the OB/GYN clinic.”

The Baton Rouge native graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 2020. After graduation, Burns enlisted in the Navy, where she became a certified surgical technologist in 2021 and earned an associate of health science degree in 2023.
