Authorities across Southeast Louisiana are searching for Alfred Cobb, the “Saw Bandit,” who is accused of a string of ATM break-ins involving a heavy-duty chainsaw.
WBRZ reported that deputy sheriffs in East Baton Rouge, St. John, Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes are actively pursuing Cobb, 42, who allegedly broke into ATMs at Family Dollar stores, credit unions and other businesses, leaving damaged machines and trail of broken glass behind.
The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office recently shared surveillance footage from an Oct. 12 incident where a man tried to break into an ATM outside a LaPlace convenience store. Although he was unable to access the money inside, the suspect caused significant damage to the machine, according to WBRZ.
While this attempt was unsuccessful, Cobb had previously succeeded in several robberies. On Aug. 24, surveillance video captured suspects entering the Family Dollar on Burbank Drive after hours, where they used a hacksaw to separate the base of the machine, reportedly making off with more than $3,000.
That same week, a similar incident occurred at another Family Dollar on O’Neal Lane, where thieves turned off the building’s power, disabling security cameras, according to East Baton Rouge Parish.
The trail of ATM burglaries continued a month later at the Family Dollar on Old Hammond Highway, “The ATM had large saw marks and dust around it. Loose bills were scattered around the area,” according to WBRZ. Security footage shows two people getting out of a stolen black Kia Soul before breaking into the store.
Livingston Parish deputies recently linked Cobb to similar cases involving breaking into dollar store ATMs, and Cobb’s cousin, Danielle Lucas, was found with multiple chainsaws and admitted to driving Cobb to several of the locations he broke into .
Cobb, who previously served time in prison for attempted armed robbery, remains on probation until 2025.
Authorities in Southeast Louisiana are urging the public to report any information on Cobb’s whereabouts as they continue to investigate his involvement in these high-profile ATM robberies. Call (225) 398-5000.
