Historic Harris Building Third Alarm Fire – ONSCENE.TV

DETAILS:

  1. On October 24, 2024, at approximately 12:09 a.m., the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the historic Harris Building near 2nd Street and E Street in San Bernardino.
  2. The first engine on scene reported heavy black smoke coming from the roof.
  3. Bystanders leaving the building reported that there could be up to 5 people inside, but no one has been found.
  4. A second and third alarm was requested due to the size of the building and the manpower required.
  5. Access was difficult as all the doors were covered with reinforced steel.
  6. A retreat of the area occurred as the roof began to sag and a collapse occurred.
  7. The fire was brought under control about two and a half hours after dispatch.
  8. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  9. No injuries were reported.
  10. Firefighters made major repairs due to the roof collapse.
  11. Fourteen engines, four trucks, four chiefs, an investigator and an incident support rig responded to the fire.
