A longtime Durham Regional Police officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly failing to provide life support during an emergency call.
Constable James Wright is a 23-year member of the Durham Police Force. He was dispatched to a 911 call in March. However, police say Wright failed to provide medical aid during his response and left a man in distress.
Police say Wright left the man in the care of a family member, who later had to seek appropriate medical attention. The victim required hospital treatment. They were admitted and subsequently released.
Durham Police have not released any further details about the incident. Durham Police said their organization “maintains accountability with supervisory oversight that includes proactive reviews of calls for service. During one of these reviews, an investigation into the alleged crime was launched.
Meanwhile, Wright has been released from custody. He is now suspended with pay pending a court ruling. According to the Ontario Sunshine List, Wright made just over $122,000 last year.
If convicted, Wright faces up to five years in prison.
