Month of Black History: Michael Jordan – WEK

Wilmington, NC (Wect) – Wect proudly celebrates the month of black history and emphasizes what a formed black quality story in southeastern North Carolina

One of the most famous people in the world, basketball legend Michael Jordan, grew up in Wilmington and began his career on the court at Lani High School.

He visited the University of North Carolina and leads the team to the NCAA Championship in 1982. After his junior year, he was selected with the third common choice in the NBA draft in 1984 by Chicago bulls.

In his 15 years, he won five MVP and six championships with the bulls. He is also a two -time Olympic gold medalist.

Jordan was introduced into the Hall of Fame of NBA in 2009.

Jordan is still contributing to his home, and recently partnered with Novant Health to open two medical clinics for Michael Jordan’s family in Wilmington.
