A Cuban man was arrested Sunday by Hialeah police on a charge of attempted murder for shooting his ex-wife multiple times at her Kendall home after an argument, authorities said.

The man, identified as Pedro Nunez, 47, admitted he had an argument with his ex-partner and shot her at least four times in the hallway of the house until the woman’s body fell on the door, causing it to open and collapsed inside the property, according to the arrest report cited by El Nuevo Herald.

After shooting his ex-wife, the Cuban man fled the scene and called his father to tell him he killed her, believing her to be dead, according to a report released Monday by the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). .

Nunes and his victim, whose name has not been released, have a 10-year-old son together.

The events unfolded early Sunday morning at a residence located in the 6200 block of Southwest 109th Avenue, where officers found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds just after 3:30 a.m.

The woman had life-threatening injuries to her torso, limbs and buttocks and was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital by Miami-Dade Firefighters.

As she passed out and regained consciousness, the victim was able to tell authorities that her ex-husband had shot her, according to the report.

Police said the woman underwent surgery Sunday and remains in hospital in critical but stable condition. She was scheduled for surgery on Monday.

It was a tenant of the residence who alerted authorities when they arrived at the home around 3:34 a.m. and found the front door open. Then, when they opened the door to their rental unit, they saw a lot of blood on the floor, prompting them to go outside and call 911.

While Miami-Dade officers were at the residence, the Hialeah Police Department announced that the suspect had surrendered to their jurisdiction and was in their custody. He also handed over the firearm he used to shoot.

Nunes was subsequently transferred to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit, which took over the investigation.

The Cuban was taken to Turner Guilford Knight Prison in Miami-Dade and faces a charge of attempted murder with a firearm. He was scheduled to appear in court this Monday.
