BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Officials with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office are searching for a Baton Rouge man who is wanted in connection with a string of ATM thefts in multiple parishes.
According to law enforcement, Alfred Roy Cobb of Baton Rouge used construction tools, including a heavy-duty hacksaw, in his attempts to break into various ATMs. Deputies called Cobb “The Saw Bandit,” according to a social media post.
In St. John, Cobb, 32, faces charges of simple burglary and criminal access to an ATM, both felonies.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that in the early morning hours of Oct. 12, a bank ATM in LaPlace was damaged by people who tried to gain access to the internal vault to steal cash. The suspects used heavy construction tools such as crowbars and a heavy saw to break into the machine. Cobb’s attempts to get money from the ATM were unsuccessful, authorities said.
Using crime scene cameras and after further investigation, the St. John’s Sheriff’s Office was able to identify a surveillance vehicle involved in the October 12th incident.
Detectives worked with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Livingston (Albany) Sheriff’s Office and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office to identify the suspects and the vehicle involved.
Identification of the owner of the surveillance vehicle led detectives to 37-year-old Daniella Lucas, who is currently in custody for several similar incidents, including the St. John Parish incident. Lucas was arrested and charged Oct. 23 with simple burglary (felony).
Upon further investigation, Alfred Cobb was identified as the prime suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the ATM burglaries that occurred in St. Parish and other surrounding areas.
Cobb currently has several outstanding warrants for his arrest in surrounding parishes for his actions and investigations by the relevant agencies.
