Gov. Jeff Landry says he would fully support restoring the tradition of LSU’s mascot being worn at Tiger Stadium before home games. Like many others, I adore the live Tigers that LSU has had over the years and am extremely grateful that LSU has always taken amazing care of them. That being said, I’ve always struggled with getting the tiger into the ballpark. Some would go even further and say that it is not right to have a live, wild animal mascot to begin with. I was incredibly happy that when Mike VII came on the scene, LSU decided to turn his home into a shrine and that he would not be paraded around the stadium for the sole purpose of our entertainment as his predecessors were. It always seemed like a happy medium to me. Don’t we have enough fun these days that we don’t have to consider bringing back this outdated tradition? Leave Mike VII alone.
