SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA. – A shooting on the 15 Freeway in San Bernardino County caused major traffic delays Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The shooting — believed to stem from a traffic accident — was reported around 9:30 a.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, south of Oak Hill Road, just north of the 138 Freeway. According to the CHP, the driver of a 2000 Volvo XC70 SUV was fired at a Ford F-150 pickup truck, striking the driver of that vehicle.
The shooting then caused the driver of the Ford pickup to follow the Volvo before the two cars crashed into each other, and the Volvo then struck an innocent driver of the Toyota Tacoma. The Toyota pickup overturned as a result of the crash.
The Volvo SUV shooting suspect fled the scene and has been at large since October 28.
The driver of the Ford pickup suffered a leg injury from the entire ordeal and is expected to survive. The innocent person in the Toyota truck that overturned is also expected to survive after suffering minor injuries, the CHP said.
Information about a suspect or suspect vehicle was not immediately released.
SkyFOX above the scene showed the two trucks with significant front-end damage and broken windows.
Vehicles were seen in the southbound lanes at a complete standstill for miles as traffic was detoured at Ranchero for several hours.
All southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway were reopened shortly before 2 p.m
