Poetry Hickory, a local monthly reading series for 18 years, will feature poets from the Poetry in Plain Sight program as its featured readers on Tuesday, November 12, at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory. The reading will begin at 6:15 and will include an open mic following the featured readers. The event is free and open to the public.
Launched in Winston-Salem in 2013, Poetry in Plain Sight is a collaboration between the NC Poetry Society, NC Writers’ Network, Winston-Salem Writers and Press 53. Four poems are selected each month. These four poems are displayed on posters in street-visible locations in arts districts, bookstores and downtowns in 13 cities across the state. In Hickory, the monthly posters can be seen at Taste Full Beans, Hickory Community Theater, Hickory Wine Shoppe and the Patrick Beaver Library.
Featured readers at the Hickory event will include poets David Poston of Gastonia, award-winning author of three collections of poetry; Joseph Mills of Winston-Salem, NC School of the Arts Distinguished Professor and author of six collections of poetry; Steve Cushman of Greensboro, author of four novels and two collections of poetry; and Dave Russo, author, editor and founder of The Haiku Foundation.
