Election 2024: Meet the candidates for East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council District 2 – AOL

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — Election day is Nov. 5 and four candidates are seeking to fill the EBR Metro Council District 2 seat.

All the candidates are Democrats and they are Eugene Collins, Dina Johnson, Anthony Kenny and Tia Mills. They each applied for the position in July.

Each candidate said they believed in one mission, to serve their community.

Collins and Kenney shared what they plan to focus on if elected to the position.

Voting hours on Election Day are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can find where you should vote on November 5 on this website or by calling the Register of Electors in your parish.

Eugene Collins

Collins spoke about his experience and how he has been a dedicated leader of residents in District 2 for more than 20 years.

He plans to focus on programs such as street safety, flood mitigation, infrastructure and small business development.

“Making sure people’s property taxes don’t go up, making sure we have good government standards in place to make sure that stays level for now as we continue to try to develop and transform Scotlandville in a place with more housing options,” Collins said. “Beyond that, we’re looking at Baker, we need to dig deeper into the flood mitigation plans, making sure we can actually deliver on those plans.” And then some of the other areas like Alice and some of the areas that we sometimes forget are part of that area. Let’s go out and see what their needs are to make sure we can meet them competently.”

He said he will work with his colleagues to create a better Baton Rouge.

“The way we’re going to fix these communities is just not going to happen that way, we’re not going to stop our way out of it,” Collins said. “The only way we can deal with that is by building and developing people.”

Anthony Kenny

He is the youngest candidate for District Council 2. Kenny is 27 years old and when it comes to leadership, age doesn’t matter.

“As a young leader in this community, I have the wherewithal and the most tangible plan and vision to move this community forward,” Kenney said. “Age is not an obstacle for me. This is a superpower because we need to invest in youth to lead our communities forward.”
