All to play for as Cal Poly hosts Cal State Bakersfield Saturday – Cal Poly Athletics

MAHONEY LEADS THE OFFENSIVE CHARTS: Second among Big West players with 43 shot attempts, freshman midfielder Quinn Mahoney’s 18 attempts on goal this season led the team with four goals to help fuel the program to the Big West regular season title. A redshirt in his first year on campus last season, Mahoney — a 16-of-17-game starter — also leads Cal Poly and ranks eighth in the Big West with four assists.

INSULT OF FOCUS: After failing to find the back of the net in the first three games this season, Cal Poly has scored 17 times in its last 14 games. Ranked third among Big West programs in scoring margin (plus-0.29), Cal Poly has featured 11 different scorers already this season, with sophomore defenseman Joaquin Torres joining the list with CSUN’s free-throw goal (Oct. 26 ).

DEFENSE AT HISTORIC PACE: With junior Nicky McCune enjoying one of the best goaltending seasons in program history, Cal Poly’s defense has now recorded eight shutouts – two shy of the program’s season record set in 2007. Cal Poly has allowed just 0.71 goals per game, well below the program record of 0.88 set in 2021, while his total of 12 goals allowed continues to exceed the mark of 17 allowed in 2011.

NEXT UP (NOVEMBER 6/9): The No. 3 and 4 seeds will host Big West Championship first-round games against the No. 5 and 6 seeds on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with the winners advancing to host the No. 1 and 2 seeds for the semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 9.
