Amazon has confirmed that their Lemmon Valley fulfillment center in North Reno will cease operations in August 2025.
At least part of the reason for the closure is related to the expiration of the property’s lease.
According to Steve Kelly, an Amazon representative, “We weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to open new facilities, improve existing facilities, and close others — including business needs, as well as how we can best improve the experience for employees, customers, . and partners.”
There are currently about 500 permanent employees at this fulfillment center.
“In addition to transferring as many employees as possible to other facilities in Reno, we are providing assistance to employees who are willing to relocate to another city and remain with Amazon.” For those who are not, we will provide a highly competitive severance package, including severance, transitional health benefits and job search support,” Kelly said.
Information provided by Amazon says the fulfillment center closure will not affect Amazon customers in the Reno area.
A same-day delivery center is under construction in South Reno, expected to open in late 2025, and employees from the Reno fulfillment center will be able to get jobs at the new facility once it opens.
