BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested after a hit-and-run crash sent two people to the hospital on Saturday, October 26th.
Mlarence Johnson, 51, was charged with hit and run, reckless operation, driving under suspension, no insurance and two counts of negligent injury.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was called to an apartment complex in the 6500 block of Hanks Drive around 7 p.m.
A woman said her husband and child were hit while riding a dirt bike on Hanks Drive. She said they were hit from behind as they tried to turn into the apartment complex and were both thrown from the bike.

The vehicle that hit them is described as a black sedan.
Emergency services and the St. George fire department also responded to the scene. The man and his daughter were found in an apartment and later taken to a local hospital.
The youngster had multiple injuries, including internal bleeding, injuries to her right eye and possible internal bleeding in her small intestine, according to the affidavit.
The man’s injuries were not known at the time of the arrest report.
EBRSO located the bicycle at the entrance to the apartment complex. They also found the child’s shoes, cellphone and plastic brush guard, according to the affidavit.
The brush guard had a sticker on it that indicated it belonged to a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, EBRSO said.
Witnesses said the vehicle quickly left the scene at a high rate of speed.
EBRSO found a location for the vehicle using make, model and direction information. They found the vehicle in the 5500 block of Washington Avenue and it had front end damage.
“The large brush guard I had recovered from the scene matched a missing brush guard on the suspect vehicle,” EBRSO said.
EBRSO located Johnson and advised him of his Miranda rights. The affidavit said he was intoxicated and had bloodshot eyes. Deputies said he could not stand or walk without assistance.
Johnson reportedly told investigators he was driving on Hanks Drive but did not remember hitting anyone with his vehicle. He also said he was the only person who used the vehicle.
He was driving with a suspended license and no insurance, according to the affidavit. According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy found a bottle of vodka that was 75 percent empty in the vehicle.
The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on Sunday, Oct. 27.
He remains in jail and bail has not yet been set.
